About Medicare Plan Comparison
Medicare Plan Comparison is made by Joseph Ellul. It exists because the useful facts about this market are already published by the agency that runs it, and then buried in a data portal nobody browses for pleasure, while the pages that rank for the same questions are written by people who earn a commission on the answer. This site takes the government's file, one row per state, and puts it on a page.
Why this site exists
The honest answer to the question most people actually have is a number, and the number is public. How many people in your state kept Original Medicare, and how many moved to a private plan, is measured every year by the government that pays for both, and it varies enormously: in the state at the top of this index almost two in three have moved, and in the state at the bottom almost nobody has. That single figure reframes the sales conversation more usefully than another explainer would, and it is nowhere on the pages that rank for it.
Who it is for
Someone approaching sixty-five who wants to know whether the plan being pitched to them is the ordinary choice where they live or an unusual one.
Someone helping a parent decide, who needs a number from the government rather than a testimonial from a sales page.
A journalist, researcher or counsellor who needs the citation and the date, and wants to check it against the federal file before quoting it.
What it does not do
- It never names a plan or an insurer, and never states a benefit, premium, cost-sharing amount or star rating. Those are the things that make a page marketing under the federal rules for this market, and this site is not marketing.
- It never prints a figure the file it cites does not carry, and never estimates a count that CMS withheld. A withheld count is printed as withheld, naming the field.
- It never captures an enquiry. There is no form on any page, so no beneficiary's details can reach an agent, a broker or a lead buyer through this site.
- It takes no commission from anyone named anywhere on the site and carries no sponsored placement. Nobody can buy a position here because there is no position to buy.
